Our First REAL School project...

As much as I loved school growing up...and as weird as it sounds I LOVED School, but when your child is in school it makes everything weird.

Christopher came home from school with his first REAL project. I don't know what I was thinking, but having a project of this size in the 1st grade seems both early and hard for him to do....

They are studying American Heroes. Each child has to make a poster of their assigned hero. Christopher has Ben Franklin. His poster has to include a min. of 4 pictures and a min. of 5 facts. In addition he has to present his hero to the front of the class and tell them about him....

Now I HATED talking in front of a group, and I still do...so how can we do this???

He will be graded on the pictures, the facts, spelling, and grammar.....

I am a nervous wreck....how is he going to learn all there is to know, or enough that he will remember the facts, when I can't seem to get the child to remember spelling words from week to week.

I freak out that he's going to fail the first grade....how can anyone put so much pressure on themselves and on their child?

Someone please remind me to breath in, breath out.

He's only 7, it's not the end of the world. The poster will come out fine!

He LOVES school, and although he finds homework to be a drag, he does do well.

Even to the point that Tia called yesterday and we were doing our reading homework, and she's says "Wow, he's reading" warms my heart to hear, but also scares me that I'm going to screw him up somehow!

I wouldn't sweat it Sheri. He will do just fine. It is amazing what they ask from kids nowadays. It puts the pressure more on the parents than it does on kids. I believe that you are stressing cause you are a perfectionnist, I bet he will do great no matter what! Good luck on the project, and don't forget to update after the presentation takes place!

No worries about the project. I thought the kids would get more out of doing their own research, and learn from their peers better than reading from a book. The presentation part will be a breeze, they will all be so proud of their projects. We have been reading a little on the American Heroes, and children actually remember more than adults usually give them credit for. The posters look great. Grading will not be that difficult, I can tell you now that he will get full credit.

Please breathe in and out, and don't stress, Christopher will in no way fail first grade, and you are doing a great job!
